# agent.forkMessage()

> Public low-code contract, signatures and examples for agent.forkMessage.

## `agent.forkMessage()`

Forks a thread from a selected message.

Notes:

* Unavailable with `readOnly: true` (throws an error).

### Signature

static forkMessage(
      assistantThreadId: string,
      assistantMessageId: string,
      data?: AssistantForkMessageInput,
    ): Promise<AssistantThreadResponse>;
```

### Example

```ts theme={null}
const fork = await agent.forkMessage(assistantThreadId, assistantMessageId);
```
