# api.startDatabaseOperation()

> Public low-code contract, signatures and examples for api.startDatabaseOperation.

## `api.startDatabaseOperation()`

Explicitly starts an UPDATE, DELETE, reviewed view mutation, or TRUNCATE in Operations.
Existing mutation methods remain synchronous. This call cannot join transactionDatabase.
System messages are suppressed by default; set skipNotification: false to opt in.
Retry resumes the remaining durable workset without repeating committed batches.
