# Action reference

> Choose the target and configuration for each declarative action.

Every action has a `type`. Its target means something different for reads, navigation and execution.

| Type | `target` | Result |
| - | - | - |
| `REFRESH` | Cell ID, array of IDs, or `'*'` | Reruns the current source and merges the requested cells. |
| `OPEN_WIDGET` | One `widgetTargets` key | Opens a registered destination. |
| `EXECUTE` | One `actionTargets` key | Executes a registered source and optionally confirms its outcome. |
| `BACK` | Omitted | Restores the previous replacement frame. |

## REFRESH

| Field | Type | Default | Meaning |
| - | - | - | - |
| `target` | string or string array | Required | Existing cells or `'*'`. |
| `set` | Binding map | None | Commits values into declared INPUTs before reading. |
| `concurrency` | `latest`, `queue` | `latest` | Whether overlapping reads keep the latest result or run in order. |

## OPEN\_WIDGET

| `target` | string | Required | Registered view name. |
| `input` | Binding map | None | Arguments merged over target defaults. |
| `mode` | `replace`, `panel`, `inline` | `replace` | Where the destination opens. |
| `hostId` | string | Required for inline | Existing cell that hosts the destination. |

## EXECUTE

| Field | Type | Default | Meaning |
| - | - | - | - |
| `target` | string | Required | Registered executor name. |
| `input` | Binding map | None | Arguments merged over target defaults. |
| `waitFor` | Probe configuration | None | Confirms asynchronous completion before success. |
| `refresh` | Cell ID or array | No follow-up read | Cells to read after confirmation. |
| `cooldownSeconds` | number | 0 | Client lock after successful execution; 0–86400. |

## BACK

Use `{ type: 'BACK' }` to restore a retained replacement frame. It does not close an independent panel or navigate its parent. Pending writes and probes must finish first. See [state and lifecycle](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/state.md).
