# Cell types

> Choose the content and required fields of each Custom Widget cell.

Every cell has a `type`. Add the fields for that type; unrelated fields do not create capabilities.

| Type | Purpose | Main fields | Reference |
| - | - | - | - |
| `TEXT` | Markdown text or a clickable label | `value`; optional `label`, `on.click` | [Text and buttons](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/text-and-buttons.md) |
| `EMPTY` | Intentional spacing or an inline destination host | Optional `id`, `width`, `height` | [Text and buttons](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/text-and-buttons.md) |
| `CHART` | A chart over returned records | `data`, `options` | [Charts](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/charts.md) |
| `TABLE` | Columns and returned records | `data`, `definition` | [Tables](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/tables.md) |
| `INPUT` | One editable value | `id`, `control`, `value` | [Inputs](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/inputs.md) |
| `FORM` | Inputs submitted together | `id`, `fields`, `on.submit` | [Forms](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/forms.md) |
| `BUTTON` | An explicit user action | `id`, `label`, `on.click` | [Text and buttons](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/text-and-buttons.md) |

## Shared interaction fields

| Field | Type | Default | Meaning |
| - | - | - | - |
| `on` | Event-to-action object | No actions | Maps a supported interaction to one declared action. |
| `refresh` | Object | No cell timer | Uses `intervalSeconds` and optional `targets`. |
| `disabled` | boolean | `false` | Disables an input or button. It is not an authorization check. |
| `label` | string | Depends on type | Visible control label; INPUT falls back to its ID. |
| `description` | string | Absent | Supporting text shown below an INPUT. |

Learn the [matrix layout](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/matrix.md) before composing different types. Use [events](https://docs.revoengine.com/widgets/events.md) to determine which `on` entries each type emits.
